1. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4: The Culling Game Part 2 — First Teaser Revealed
The “MAPPA 15th Anniversary Lineup Reveal” livestream confirmed that Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 is officially in production, with the teaser video showing footage but giving no release window yet. The bigger surprise was the directing change: Takeru Satō, who served as assistant director on Season 3, is stepping up to direct the new season.

Why it matters: Jujutsu Kaisen has become one of MAPPA’s flagship franchises since the original series premiered in October 2020 with a 24-episode run. The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film followed in December 2021 (with an English dub release in March 2022 and revival screenings across five Japanese cities in October), and Season 2 aired in July 2023 across MBS, TBS, and 28 affiliated stations.
Season 3, subtitled The Culling Game Part 1, kicked off with a one-hour special on January 8 on the “Super Animeism TURBO” block and wrapped on March 26 with an extended 27-minute finale. 2. New Ghost in the Shell Anime Sets Global July 7 Prime Video Release
Bandai Namco Filmworks unveiled the Prime Video trailer and confirmed release date for The Ghost in the Shell (Kōkaku Kidōtai THE GHOST IN THE SHELL), a new television anime produced by Science SARU. The series will broadcast in Japan and then stream on Prime Video Japan the same night at 11:30 p.m. JST. Notably, it will go live simultaneously on Prime Video in over 240 countries and regions worldwide, excluding mainland China, Russia, and Vietnam — making this one of the widest day-and-date global rollouts for an original anime series this year.

Creative team: The project marks the directorial debut of Mokochan, a storyboarder and key animator known for work on DAN DA DAN, The Heike Story, and Tatami Time Machine Blues. Series scripts are written and overseen by acclaimed novelist Toh Enjoe, author of The Empire of Corpses and a writer on Space Dandy and Godzilla Singular Point. Character design and chief animation direction fall to Shūhei Handa (Little Witch Academia TV series, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Spriggan).
Music direction and composition are handled by Taisei Iwasaki (BELLE), alongside Ryō Konishi and Yuki Kanesaka (Dr. Stone). 3. Sunrise and SHAFT Tease Their First-Ever Collaboration
In a surprise move, two of anime’s most distinct studios are joining forces for the first time. Sunrise and SHAFT launched a dedicated countdown account on X, titled “Sunrise x Shaft New Anime,” building toward an official project reveal on June 24 at 12:30 a.m. JST. The account kicked things off with a video built around “color scripts” — early visual mood boards used to plan a project’s color and lighting design — offering fans a tantalizing first glimpse of the new anime’s atmosphere without revealing plot or characters.
Why this pairing is a big deal: Sunrise is the studio behind the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise and other mecha staples like Muteki Chōjin Zambot 3 and Armored Trooper Votoms, as well as the Love Live! and Code Geass franchises. SHAFT, meanwhile, is known for its highly stylized direction on series like the Monogatari franchise and Madoka Magica. A collaboration between a studio rooted in large-scale mecha and franchise IP and a studio celebrated for experimental visual storytelling has fans speculating about what genre this new project could land in. 4. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime — Season 4 Part 2 Gets Promo, Visual & Theme Songs
The staff behind That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4 revealed a new promotional video, key visual, and theme song lineup for the season’s second part. Daoko performs the new opening theme “TACTIC,” while Azusa Tadokoro sings the new ending theme “Hymnal” — a refresh from the first part’s opener “Esoragoto” by Eir Aoi and ender “Katsubō” by CiON.
Season context: Season 4 debuted April 3 on NTV’s revamped one-hour “Friday Anime Night” block at 11:00 p.m. JST, with BS11 following a day later.
