Just like anime has legendary protagonists, it also has legendary villains. In fact, many of the greatest anime series wouldn’t feel the same without their iconic antagonists.
Think about villains like Frieza, Meruem, Madara Uchiha, Ryomen Sukuna, Griffith, Dio Brando, and Envy. These characters played huge roles in making their respective anime unforgettable.
Let’s be honest—if villains like Frieza (Dragon Ball Z), Meruem (Hunter x Hunter), Madara (Naruto Shippuden), Sukuna (Jujutsu Kaisen), Griffith (Berserk), Dio (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), and Envy (Fullmetal Alchemist) didn’t exist, their stories simply wouldn’t have had the same impact.
We love these villains because they make the story better, but at the same time, we hate them because of the terrible things they do throughout their series.
And that’s exactly what makes a great villain.

Who Is the Most Hated Anime Villain?
Anime villains come in many forms. Some are masterminds who manipulate everyone around them, while others rely on overwhelming strength and brutality.
What makes a villain truly memorable is how strongly they make fans react.
Whether it’s betrayal, cruelty, manipulation, arrogance, or pure evil, some villains become so effective that fans genuinely hate them.
That’s why we created this poll and asked the AniWorldTV community to decide.

The Winner: Envy
With an impressive 37% of the total votes, Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist officially wins the AniWorldTV poll and earns the title of:

Envy is one of those villains who knows exactly how to get under people’s skin. Throughout Fullmetal Alchemist, Envy constantly manipulates, deceives, and causes suffering for countless characters.
Without giving away too many spoilers, Envy’s actions are responsible for some of the most heartbreaking moments in the entire series, which explains why so many fans voted against the character.

Griffith Takes Second Place
Coming in second place with 30% of the votes is Griffith from Berserk.
Honestly, many anime fans expected Griffith to be near the top.
For years, Griffith has been one of the most controversial and hated characters in anime and manga history. His actions completely changed the course of Berserk and left a lasting impact on readers and viewers alike.
Many fans still haven’t forgiven him.
Dio Secures Third Place
Taking third place is Dio Brando from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure with 25% of the votes.
Dio is one of the most iconic villains in anime history. His arrogance, cruelty, and unforgettable personality helped make him one of the most recognizable antagonists ever created.
Even fans who haven’t watched JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure often know who Dio is.
What Do We Think About the Results?
Honestly, we completely agree with the results.
The voting was entirely done by anime fans, and there was no manipulation involved. Every vote was cast by members of the AniWorldTV community.
We expected Envy and Griffith to perform well, but we weren’t sure which villains would take second and third place.
Seeing Envy win the poll wasn’t a huge surprise because the character is genuinely one of the most hated villains in anime for many fans.
Final Thoughts
A great villain can make an anime unforgettable.
While we may hate characters like Envy, Griffith, Dio, Frieza, or Sukuna, they are often the reason their stories become so memorable in the first place.
