Dual Shadow: Precure Villain Heroines – New Precure Spin-Off Announced

According to Anime News Network’s report, Dual Shadow ~Precure Villain Heroines~ is a new television anime spin-off of the Precure franchise scheduled to premiere in 2027. The series will feature an original story and new characters.

Unlike previous spin-offs that continued the stories of familiar characters, Dual Shadow will feature an original story and original characters, introducing a different direction for the long-running magical-girl franchise.

The biggest clue about this new anime is its subtitle, Precure Villain Heroines. The word “Villain” suggests that the story will explore a side of the Precure universe that has not traditionally taken centre stage.

What Is Dual Shadow: Precure Villain Heroines About?

The full plot of Dual Shadow has not yet been revealed. However, its official announcement suggests that the anime will explore a different side of the Precure universe by focusing on the concept of villains.

The teaser begins with a bright, peaceful field of flowers. The atmosphere then takes a mysterious turn as the Japanese phrase 「だってわたしたちプリキュアじゃないし」, which roughly translates to “Because we’re not Precure, after all,” appears on screen.

A single flower is then shown swaying under a spotlight, while a pair of mysterious eyes can be seen in the darkness behind it. The unsettling imagery creates a very different atmosphere from the cheerful tone commonly associated with the franchise.

Although the teaser provides little information about the plot, it raises an interesting question: what happens when the central characters are not traditional Precure heroines?

Although the announcement came from Toei, there is currently no confirmed information stating that Toei Animation will handle the animation production for this series.

What Is Toei Animation?

Toei Animation is a Japanese animation studio known for producing popular anime franchises, including Pretty Cure, One Piece, and Dragon Ball. However, its involvement in announcing Dual Shadow ~Precure Villain Heroines~ does not necessarily confirm that it will animate the series.

You can visit the official Toei Animation website to learn more about the studio and its productions.

What Makes Dual Shadow Different?

Traditional Precure stories generally follow heroines who transform into magical warriors and fight to protect people from various enemies. Throughout the franchise, however, some antagonists have changed sides, developed friendships with the protagonists, or eventually become Precure themselves.

Dual Shadow appears to take this idea in a different direction by placing the concept of villain heroines at the centre of a new story.

Here are a few possibilities worth considering:

• Villain protagonists: The central characters may be introduced as villains rather than conventional magical-girl heroes.
• A different perspective: The story could explore events from the viewpoint of characters who oppose the traditional Precure.
• Moral ambiguity: The anime may examine whether characters labelled as villains are necessarily evil.
• A darker atmosphere: The teaser’s mysterious imagery suggests a potentially more unsettling visual style than the franchise’s usual cheerful presentation.

These are interpretations of the title and teaser, not confirmed plot details. The identities, motivations, powers, and relationships of the new characters have not yet been revealed.
