Crayon Shin-chan Voice Actor Hee Sun Kang Steps Down After 26 Years
In a heartfelt update, veteran voice actor Hee Sun Kang—best known for voicing Shin-chan’s mother in the Korean dub of Crayon Shin-chan—is stepping down after 26 years in the role due to health reasons.
According to Korean animation channel Tooniverse, So-yeon Ahn will take over as the voice of Misae. While the network cited “personal reasons,” industry sources confirmed the decision was related to Kang’s health.

Kang was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2021, which later spread to her liver. Despite undergoing dozens of rounds of chemotherapy, she continued working. In 2023, she appeared on the variety show You Quiz on the Block, sharing her story of recording even during treatment and surgery.
Debuting in 1979, Kang has voiced Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich, Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, and the iconic Seoul subway announcements. She has received the KBS Voice Acting Award (2005) and the Prime Minister’s Commendation at the 2018 Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards.
