Hey everyone! Welcome back to Aniworldtv. Today, we’re embarking on a nostalgic journey, highlighting some of the best anime that premiered each year from 2000 up to 2009. This will be a multi-part series, so make sure to check out the other installments! We’re dedicated to bringing you the best anime content to explore and enjoy.
let’s start our article.
1. Hajime no Ippo (Fighting Spirit) – Year 2000
- Details: Hajime no Ippo is widely regarded as one of the best sports/fighting anime. It follows the journey of Makunouchi Ippo, a timid high school student who discovers his passion for boxing after a chance encounter with Mamoru Takamura, the current Japanese boxing champion. This anime is not just about the thrill of the fights; it also beautifully portrays themes of discipline, hard work, and unwavering commitment to one’s goals. Personally, it’s one of my go-to anime for motivation and a reminder of the power of perseverance.
- Note: While the anime has multiple seasons and movies, not all of them have been dubbed into English. If you primarily watch dubs, you’ll only experience a portion of Ippo’s complete journey.
- Seasons: 3 Seasons, Several Movies
2. Digimon Tamers – Year 2001
- Details: Digimon Tamers is a unique entry in the Digimon franchise. While perhaps not as universally famous as Digimon Adventure or Digimon Data Squad, many fans consider its storyline to be more mature and compelling. The season introduces a new set of characters and a slightly darker tone, exploring the relationship between humans and Digimon in a different light. If you’ve enjoyed other Digimon series, I highly recommend giving Tamers a watch. I’m often surprised it doesn’t get more recognition!
- Seasons: 1
- Dub Available: Yes
3. Naruto – Year 2002
- Details: Here we have one of the “Big Three” anime: Naruto. I honestly don’t think this series needs much of an introduction. Whether you’re a hardcore anime fan or not, Naruto and its iconic characters are known by many worldwide. This entry specifically refers to the original Naruto series, before Naruto Shippuden. It follows the early adventures of the titular young ninja, his dreams of becoming Hokage, and his bonds with his teammates.
- Seasons: 1 (Original Naruto)
- Dub Available: Yes
4. Fullmetal Alchemist – Year 2003

- Details: My initial experience with the 2003 adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist was a bit slow, but after the first few episodes, I was completely engrossed, often watching multiple episodes after school. What sets this anime apart in the anime world is its consistently high ratings across all episodes. While even giants like Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, and Dragon Ball have some episodes with average ratings, Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) maintains a remarkably high standard, with many episodes scoring above 7 stars and some even above 9.5. It boasts a fantastic storyline, and if you haven’t seen it, you’re truly missing out on a remarkable anime.
- Seasons: 2, 2 is Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.
- Dub Available: Yes
5. Monster – Year 2004

- Details: Monster is an anime that I wouldn’t necessarily recommend to beginners or those who prefer lighter themes. This series has the power to make you think deeply and potentially shift your perspective. For me, it remains one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve ever seen. It’s a masterpiece that’s difficult to fully describe with words. If you’re looking for something exciting and thought-provoking, give Monster a try. Like Fullmetal Alchemist, it might have a slightly slower start, so I’d suggest watching at least the first five episodes to get truly hooked.
- Seasons: 1
- Dub Available: Yes
6. Mushishi – Year 2005

- Details: Mushishi is a supernatural anime with a unique and often atmospheric tone. It might not appeal to everyone, especially those who aren’t fond of supernatural or slightly eerie themes. However, if you do enjoy the supernatural genre, Mushishi is an anime that stands out. Its episodic nature and focus on the mysterious “Mushi” and their impact on the world create a truly captivating experience that sets it apart from other supernatural anime.
- Seasons: 2 (Original series aired in 2005 and 2006)
- Dub Available: Yes (for both seasons)
7. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion – Year 2006
- Details: If you’re a fan of Death Note, then Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is a strong contender for your attention. It features a brilliant student who gains a powerful ability and uses it to seek revenge and change the world. In my opinion, Code Geass is just as amazing, if not more so, than Death Note. The fact that the story unfolds over two seasons and includes movies allows for a more expansive and intricate narrative.
- Seasons: 2 Seasons, Several Movies
- Dub Available: Yes
8. Gurren Lagann – Year 2007
- Details: Gurren Lagann is known for its over-the-top action and characters who reach almost unbelievable levels of power. Some fans even joke that its characters could potentially rival or even surpass those in Dragon Ball due to their scale and sheer force. The image you included certainly hints at the cosmic scope of the series! While I haven’t personally watched this anime yet, its reputation for being incredibly energetic and visually spectacular precedes it. I appreciate that you mentioned not criticizing anime you haven’t experienced!
- Seasons: 1
- Dub Available: Yes
9. Toradora! – Year 2008
- Details: I personally consider Toradora! to be one of the best romance anime out there. Unlike some modern romance anime that focus solely on the push-and-pull between a central couple, Toradora! explores the complexities of unrequited love and caring for someone even when those feelings aren’t reciprocated. It offers a more nuanced and relatable take on romance. If you enjoy the genre, I highly recommend giving Toradora! a watch; it has some valuable insights into relationships. While the anime explores the idea of caring for someone you love even if they don’t love you back, in real life, finding someone who reciprocates those feelings is often a more fulfilling path.
- Seasons: 1
- Dub Available: Yes
10. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – Year 2009
- Details: If you enjoyed the original Fullmetal Alchemist, I’m confident you’ll appreciate Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Give it a couple of episodes to draw you in. Brotherhood is also renowned for having some of the highest-rated anime episodes within a single season. What makes this anime so exceptional is its complete and faithful adaptation of the manga, coupled with its outstanding storyline, memorable soundtrack, and fluid animation. Having watched countless anime, including all seasons and numerous movies, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood stands out as one of the truly great ones.
- Seasons: 1
- Dub Available: Yes
