Jiren was one of the strongest fighters we saw in Dragon Ball Super during the Tournament of Power. He pushed Goku to unlock Ultra Instinct, fought against multiple powerful warriors, and nearly secured victory for Universe 11. Honestly, when I first watched that tournament, it was difficult to imagine many mortal fighters defeating Jiren without going through an extremely difficult battle.
But things have changed quite a bit since then.
Dragon Ball Super has introduced some seriously powerful characters and transformations, including Black Frieza, Ultra Ego Vegeta, Beast Gohan, and the increasingly powerful Broly. Then we have Granolah and Gas, who reached extraordinary levels of power during the Granolah the Survivor Saga.
So, I started wondering: how many fighters from Universe 7 could actually defeat Tournament of Power Jiren today? And more importantly, which of them could beat him easily, and which would have to struggle?
For this ranking, I am only considering Jiren at the level he demonstrated during the Tournament of Power. I will use the feats shown in the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga to compare him with these fighters.
Of course, Dragon Ball does not give us official power levels for these transformations, so some of these matchups are debatable. The fight durations and difficulty ratings are my personal estimates based on what we have seen, rather than confirmed facts.
With that out of the way, let’s start with the fighter I believe would give Jiren the least chance of winning.
How Strong Was Jiren During the Tournament of Power?
Before we get into the ranking, I think it is worth remembering just how powerful Jiren actually was.
During the Tournament of Power, Jiren was able to fight Goku, Vegeta, Android 17, and other powerful warriors while maintaining incredible control over his energy. His speed, strength, and defensive abilities made him one of the most difficult opponents Goku had ever faced.
Even after Goku awakened Ultra Instinct, Jiren continued fighting and pushed himself beyond his previous limits. Goku eventually gained the upper hand with his perfected form, but the transformation’s strain became a major problem.
What makes Jiren interesting is that he was not just strong. He was also disciplined, experienced, and capable of reading his opponents. Defeating him requires more than simply having a powerful transformation.
However, the fighters introduced or developed after the Tournament of Power have demonstrated abilities that make this matchup very different today.
7. Gas — The Temporary Strongest Mortal
Estimated fight duration: 2–6 minutes | Difficulty: 5/10

Gas is another character whose power makes this comparison interesting. Like Granolah, he gained an extraordinary increase in strength through a wish, temporarily becoming the strongest mortal in the universe.
His abilities went beyond raw physical power. Gas could create weapons from his energy, attack from different distances, and adapt his fighting style to the situation. These abilities would make him a dangerous opponent for Jiren, who would have to deal with more than straightforward punches and energy blasts.
But there is a catch.
Gas’s tremendous power came with a serious cost. As the battle continued, his body deteriorated, and he became increasingly unable to sustain the fight. Frieza ultimately defeated him.
Would Gas defeat Jiren?
I think peak Gas has a strong argument for winning this matchup. His wish-enhanced power allowed him to overwhelm Goku and Vegeta during the Granolah the Survivor Saga, and his versatile fighting style would give Jiren plenty to deal with.
However, I would not treat Gas’s peak as his permanent level of strength. His transformation came with a severe limitation, and his declining condition would become a major problem in a prolonged battle.
There is also an important distinction between his peak power and his current status in the story. Gas is not an active contender in the present-day events.
My verdict: Peak Gas could defeat Tournament of Power Jiren, but his temporary power makes him a less reliable winner than the other fighters on this list. I am including him because his peak feats are too significant to ignore.

6. Granolah — The Fighter Who Traded His Lifespan for Power
Loading...
Estimated fight duration: 2–6 minutes | Difficulty: 5/10
Granolah deserves a place on this list because his wish made him one of the most powerful mortals in the universe at that point in the story.
However, there was a serious cost. Granolah sacrificed much of his remaining lifespan to gain that extraordinary power, making his situation very different from a Saiyan unlocking a transformation through training.
What makes Granolah especially dangerous is that he does not fight like Goku or Vegeta. He combines speed and precision with the ability to target vital points, making him a threat even to opponents who possess incredible physical strength.
Could Granolah defeat Jiren?
I think peak Granolah has a strong chance.
Jiren is accustomed to fighting opponents who challenge him through raw power, but Granolah’s precision could create a different kind of problem. Instead of relying entirely on overpowering Jiren, Granolah could look for openings and attack vulnerable points.
His wish-enhanced strength also allowed him to compete with Goku and Vegeta during the Granolah the Survivor Saga.
However, I would make an important distinction here: I am talking about Granolah at his peak after making the wish. We should not automatically assume that he permanently retains every advantage of that power increase.
My verdict: Peak Granolah could defeat Tournament of Power Jiren, but I would consider this a more conditional victory than the ones I have given to Black Frieza or Goku. His ranking depends on using his peak wish-enhanced version.
5. Broly — The Fighter Who Could Become More Dangerous as the Battle Continues
Loading...
Estimated fight duration: 3–8 minutes | Difficulty: 5/10
Broly is a character I would never underestimate in a power-scaling discussion. His potential is extraordinary, and his battle against Goku and Vegeta in Dragon Ball Super: Broly showed just how quickly his power could increase.
At the beginning of that fight, Broly was not as experienced as his opponents. However, as the battle continued, he adapted and became increasingly dangerous. His raw strength and ability to push beyond his previous limits made him an extremely difficult opponent to handle.
By the Super Hero storyline, Broly had also started training to control his power. That is an important development because uncontrolled strength is not always enough to defeat an experienced martial artist.
How would Broly perform against Jiren?
I think this is one of the more interesting matchups on the list.
Jiren has the experience and discipline to take advantage of Broly’s mistakes. If he can control the pace of the fight and finish it early, he may prevent Broly from reaching his full potential.
But if the battle continues and Broly’s power keeps increasing, the situation could become much more dangerous for Jiren.
The problem is that we cannot confidently say exactly how strong Broly would become in this particular fight. His potential is clear, but his precise position relative to current Goku and Vegeta is not completely settled by the available feats.
My verdict: I think Broly has a credible path to victory, especially if he can control his transformation and continue growing stronger. I rank him fifth because his lack of experience could give Jiren an opportunity to win.
4. Ultra Ego Vegeta — The Saiyan Who Refuses to Back Down
Loading...
Estimated fight duration: 2–5 minutes | Difficulty: 4/10
Vegeta’s Ultra Ego is one of my favourite transformations to discuss because it suits his personality so well. While Goku’s Ultra Instinct focuses on instinctive movement and avoiding attacks, Ultra Ego is associated with destruction, battle spirit, and Vegeta’s willingness to keep fighting as the battle intensifies.
Vegeta developed this transformation through his training with Beerus. We saw its potential during the Granolah the Survivor Saga, when Vegeta used Ultra Ego against an opponent whose power had been dramatically increased by a wish.
Although Vegeta demonstrated tremendous offensive power, the battle also showed the form’s limitations. He accumulated damage and eventually struggled to continue fighting effectively.
Could Ultra Ego Vegeta defeat Jiren?
I think Vegeta has the power and experience to win this matchup, but I would not expect him to walk away without taking some serious hits.
Jiren is a disciplined fighter who knows how to exploit an opponent’s weaknesses. If Vegeta relies too heavily on absorbing attacks and pushing forward, Jiren could turn that strategy against him.
On the other hand, Vegeta’s destructive abilities and offensive pressure would make him a dangerous opponent. If he fights intelligently instead of simply trying to overpower Jiren, I believe he has a strong chance of winning.
The biggest question is whether Vegeta can finish the battle before the damage he takes becomes a serious problem.
My verdict: Ultra Ego Vegeta wins, but I expect him to work harder for it than Goku or Beast Gohan. His own fighting style could make this battle more difficult than it needs to be.

3. Beast Gohan — The Biggest Surprise in Universe 7
Loading...
Estimated fight duration: 1–4 minutes | Difficulty: 3/10
Honestly, Beast Gohan is one of the most interesting characters to include in this ranking because his transformation changed how I look at his place among the strongest fighters in Universe 7.
For a long time, Gohan was not training as consistently as Goku and Vegeta. Despite his enormous potential, he spent much of his time away from serious battles. That changed in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, when he awakened Beast and defeated Cell Max with a powerful Special Beam Cannon.
But his performance against Cell Max is not the only reason I think he belongs near the top of this list.
In the manga’s Super Hero storyline, Gohan later sparred with Goku and demonstrated that Beast could contend with Ultra Instinct. That makes him a serious contender when we compare the strongest versions of Universe 7’s fighters with Tournament of Power Jiren.
Why would Beast Gohan have the advantage?
Gohan’s greatest strength has always been his enormous hidden potential. When he pushes beyond his limits, he can unlock power that surprises even experienced fighters.
I think Jiren would find Beast Gohan much more challenging than the version of Gohan who participated in the Tournament of Power. Beast’s offensive power alone could put Jiren under serious pressure.
However, I would not automatically say that Gohan is stronger than Goku in every situation. Their sparring match gives us evidence that they can compete with each other, but it does not settle every possible matchup.
Gohan’s control, stamina, and consistency would all matter here.
My verdict: Beast Gohan should have a strong chance of defeating Tournament of Power Jiren. I rank him third, although I can understand why some fans would put him above Goku or Vegeta.
2. Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku — The Warrior Who Has Already Faced Jiren
Loading...
Estimated fight duration: 1–3 minutes | Difficulty: 2/10
Goku is an obvious choice, but I think there is a good reason to rank him so highly: he has already fought Jiren, and he has continued developing since that battle.
During the Tournament of Power, Ultra Instinct allowed Goku to dodge Jiren’s attacks with incredible precision and counterattack without having to consciously think about every movement. It was the first time Jiren faced an opponent who could challenge him so effectively.
The problem was that Goku could not maintain the transformation indefinitely. His body eventually reached its limit, and he lost the advantage he had gained.
But we should not judge current Goku solely by what happened in that tournament. The Dragon Ball Super manga shows him continuing to train and refine Ultra Instinct, including learning more about how to use the technique in a way that suits his own nature.
Could Goku defeat Jiren more easily now?
I think he has a very strong chance.
Goku knows how Jiren fights, and Ultra Instinct gives him an excellent defensive advantage against Jiren’s powerful attacks. His experience against increasingly powerful opponents also makes him much better equipped to adapt during a battle.
The biggest question, in my opinion, is stamina. If Goku can maintain his form and fight efficiently, he should have a significant advantage over Tournament of Power Jiren.
I would still put Black Frieza above him because of what Frieza demonstrated when he returned. But against Jiren specifically, current Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku is one of the safest picks.
My verdict: Goku wins with relatively little difficulty, provided he can maintain Ultra Instinct long enough to finish the fight.
1. Black Frieza — The One Who Would Defeat Jiren the Easiest
Loading...
Estimated fight duration: 10–30 seconds | Difficulty: 1/10
If you ask me which character on this list would defeat Tournament of Power Jiren with the least effort, my answer is Black Frieza.
Frieza’s transformation was one of the biggest surprises in the Dragon Ball Super manga. After training in another dimension for an extended period, he returned with a completely new level of power. And what he did next made the difference between him and the other fighters look enormous.
He defeated Gas, who had become the strongest mortal in the universe through a wish, and then knocked out Goku and Vegeta in their Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego forms with almost no effort.
Now, think about that for a moment. Jiren was an incredible challenge for Goku during the Tournament of Power, but Black Frieza managed to overwhelm a much more developed version of Goku with a single strike.
Why do I think Black Frieza would win?
In my opinion, Frieza has the clearest advantage in this matchup. Jiren is powerful, but Black Frieza has demonstrated a level of strength that puts him far beyond the opponents he once struggled against.
Jiren’s fighting experience might help him defend himself initially, but I doubt he would have enough time to understand the full extent of Frieza’s power before the fight was decided.
The only reason I would avoid calling this an absolutely guaranteed outcome is that we have not seen Black Frieza fight Jiren directly. Still, based on the feats available, Frieza is my number-one choice.
My verdict: Black Frieza wins overwhelmingly. If this fight ever happens, I would expect Jiren to struggle to keep up rather than give Frieza a genuinely competitive battle.
Final Ranking: Who Would Defeat Jiren Most Easily?
Here is how I would rank these seven fighters based on their demonstrated feats and the versions discussed above.
| Rank | Fighter | My difficulty rating | Estimated fight time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Black Frieza | 1/10 — Almost no difficulty | 10–30 seconds |
| 2 | Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku | 2/10 — Very easy | 1–3 minutes |
| 3 | Beast Gohan | 3/10 — Easy | 1–4 minutes |
| 4 | Ultra Ego Vegeta | 4/10 — Some resistance | 2–5 minutes |
| 5 | Broly | 5/10 — Moderate challenge | 3–8 minutes |
| 6 | Granolah | 5/10 — Moderate challenge | 2–6 minutes |
| 7 | Gas | 5/10 — Moderate challenge | 2–6 minutes |
These are my personal estimates, not official power levels or confirmed fight outcomes. I would not be surprised if another fan ranked Gohan, Vegeta, or Broly differently, because the manga does not provide a definitive ranking for every possible matchup.
Granolah and Gas are evaluated at their peak wish-enhanced power, while Broly’s position is more uncertain because his power can increase during battle.
What About Orange Piccolo and Android 17?
I also considered Orange Piccolo and Android 17, but I would put them in a separate category rather than confidently add them to the main ranking.
Orange Piccolo received a major power increase in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and demonstrated impressive abilities against Cell Max. However, we do not have a direct comparison that conclusively establishes whether he could defeat Tournament of Power Jiren in a one-on-one battle.
Android 17 is another interesting case. His stamina, barriers, and performance during the Tournament of Power made him a valuable member of Universe 7’s team. But surviving and contributing to a team victory is not the same as proving that he can defeat Jiren alone.
Personally, I would want to see more evidence before ranking either character among the fighters who could reliably defeat Jiren.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Black Frieza defeat Tournament of Power Jiren?
In my opinion, Black Frieza is the strongest candidate on this list. His ability to defeat Gas and knock out Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta makes him heavily favoured against Tournament of Power Jiren.
Can current Goku defeat Jiren without Ultra Instinct?
This article focuses on Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku. Whether Goku could win without using Ultra Instinct depends on the version of Goku being considered, and I would not claim that the available evidence settles every possible matchup.
Is Beast Gohan stronger than Ultra Instinct Goku?
The manga’s sparring match showed that Beast Gohan could compete with Ultra Instinct Goku. However, I do not think that one encounter proves that Gohan is stronger in every situation. Their relative strength remains debatable.
Can Broly defeat Jiren?
I think Broly has a genuine chance, particularly if he continues increasing his power during the fight. However, Jiren’s experience and disciplined fighting style could give him an advantage if Broly cannot control his strength.
Are Granolah and Gas permanently stronger than Jiren?
Their wish-enhanced forms temporarily placed them among the strongest mortals in the universe. Their inclusion here is based on their peak power, not on the assumption that they permanently retained it.
Conclusion
When I look at the strongest fighters Universe 7 has produced since the Tournament of Power, I think Jiren would have a much harder time maintaining his position among the top mortal warriors.
Black Frieza is my clear number-one choice because of how effortlessly he defeated Gas, Goku, and Vegeta when he returned. Current Perfected Ultra Instinct Goku and Beast Gohan also have very strong cases, while Ultra Ego Vegeta and Broly could make the battle much more competitive.
Granolah and Gas deserve consideration as well, although their rankings depend on the temporary power they gained through their wishes.
Of course, this is power scaling, and not every matchup has a definitive answer. That is what makes these discussions interesting in the first place.
But now I want to know what you think. Which fighter from Universe 7 would defeat Tournament of Power Jiren the easiest? Would you put Black Frieza at number one, or do you think Goku, Beast Gohan, or Broly deserves a higher position? Let me know your ranking in the comments!
